Interactive Christmas Card

It's almost that time of year to start getting Christmas cards made and in the mail. I love making a card people will remember. I usually try to keep it simple since I usually have to make 15 cards. Every once in a while I get a wild hair and have to make a doozie just to send out to a certain person that really appreciates the effort I put into it. I decided I wanted to make at least one interactive Christmas card that can hold a gift card. It's like a surprise within a surprise.

It was a challenging card that was inspired by my card making hero Jennifer Mcguire. She is just amazing at techniques and thinking outside of the box. I love her style and creativity.

This is my version. It has a slide out sentiment and it opens like a regular card. The person receiving it would pull on the ribbon and the white card will slide out with a gift card attached to the back.

I made this card using Real Red card stock for the main sliding portion. Cutting it at 4" x 8". I then folded in half to create a small card at 4x4. I then die cut a circle on the front a little off center so that I could put embellishments on the front. I then stamped and decorated an image on to a piece of white card stock that was cut 3.75 x 3.75. I glued it onto the inside of the red card, making sure the image would show through the window. I then glued a piece of acetate on the inside of the front flap to cover the cut out. It gives (to me) a more finished and glossy look. I then built up the edges on the inside of the card. I used 1/4" strips of red card stock that were cut at 4" (4) and 3.75" (2). I basically framed the inside of the card making sure the strips' edge was flush with the card's edge. I did 2 layers of strips to ensure there was enough space for the card to slide. I then cut a second white (thick) card stock at 3.5" x 4.25" so the it would fit inside the frame and long enough to stick out to have a tab to pull. I then stamped and decorated. I taped the gift card onto the back of the white card. Then I cut (with an exacto knife) a slit in the crease of the card that was a little bigger than 3.5" just enough so the card would slide easily in and out. I then glued the top flap of card to the 1/4" frames--- make sure that the sliding card is centered off the frames so that you don't glue it into the card--.

I then cut white card stock 5.50" x 4.25" to create a card base to adhere the slider onto. I then used green and white designer series paper from Quilted Christmas collection and cut it 5.25" x 4" and centered it onto the card base. I then attached to red card slider onto the card base using as much glue tape as possible (a strong glue tape). I placed it a little off center on the card base. I then punched a hold on the tab and added a red, green and white ribbon from the Christmas Quilt series.  I used clear rhinestones on the front of the card and a holly stitched felt embellishment from the Christmas Quilt series.
The stamp set I used was Christmas Quilt stamp set that is found in the Stampin' Up Holiday Collection.

This card was fun to make. I will be honest, it was a little challenging. If you like to challenge yourself and you enjoy doing something off beat, then this is a good card to try.

If you have questions feel free to send me an email or PM on the Paper Penguin facebook page. I'm happy to help anyway I can.
