Creative Card Folding

Happy Wednesday...

I've been getting a little bored making cards lately...What?!? Bored??? How can that be? Well...not the designing of the card front or inside. There is so much out there to get bored with creating, unless you come to one of those creative brick walls and it takes you almost week to figure out a way of getting around it.

I'm talking about the way it opens and closes. I get bored with that, and watching how people automatically know to open the card from right to left or from bottom to top. There are times I want to just screw around and give the receiver a hard time. Make them think about it or give them a different perspective of my little pieces of art. Gotta earn that cash nephew. Ha ha ha... Yes I have a mean streak sometimes.

I did a little digging around on that website that everyone loves to go to for inspiration, and I found a few ideas. I thought I would share them with you.

The first one I did looks complicated but it's not. The card fold is kinda like what card makers like to call a gate fold. There are not just 1, but 2 flaps to open up to get the goodies on the inside. The flaps are also triangle shapes, so it gives a very interesting way of opening.

To do this, you will need a letter sized piece of cardstock. (8 1/2 x 11) The whole sheet will make 2 of these cards. You will also need a paper trimmer with a cutting blade and a scoring blade. If your trimmer doesn't have a scoring blade just use a ruler and a bone folder, or a score board.

STEP 1: Score a line at the half way mark on the width (4 1/4" mark)
STEP 2: Score a line at the half way mark going on the length (5 1/2" line)
STEP 3: Cut a line diagonally going from upper left point of paper to the lower right point of the                       paper.

Voia la... You did it. Now to decorate. It's fun if you put your design in the center of the card so that it cover the cut line in the opening like I did. It just makes it look as if the front of the card is one piece.

I did another card in the same fashion except this time I glued the top flap down after I embossed it and I die cut an image from the bottom flap. I then used a patterned paper I created as a background behind the die cut image. I took my tear tape and taped down the bottom and about a 1/4 of the angled edge. This allowed me a slot to put a gift card or even money. Fun, Fun. Now you try it. I want to see those pictures posted on here or even my facebook page.

The next one is a step fold card. Once again it looks difficult but it's super easy and fun to create. It has 2 layers that fold to create steps. The card base is cut at 4 1/4 wide by 8 1/2. Fold the cardstock in half as normal. Then fold the top flap of the card base back at 2 1/8". Then decorate the card. Make a strip that is 1 1/4" wide x 8 1/2 long. Fold in half like you did the card base. Then turn it so the fold is on the right. Fold the bottom flap in half  at 2 1/8". The fold should be on the left. You would then match the edge of the long fold of the strip to the edge of the short edge of the card base. Glue it down. Then match the edge of the short fold of the strip to the inside flap edge of the card base. You really want to have the card base and the strip decorated the way you want before gluing the strip to the card base.

There you go! Loads

of fun. Impress all your friends with the creative folding you do for your creative cards.
